🚧 Chicago’s Construction Boom
Total construction projects in Chicago are set to grow by 4.7% in 2025 after a 7.3% increase in 2024.
From data centers to office space, the infrastructure is being put in place to transform Chicago into a world class city.
Let’s dive into the highlights:
Non-Residential
Non-residential construction, including commercial, manufacturing, and institutional projects, will see significant growth in the next two years. This sector alone accounts for over $9.6B in ‘started projects’ by 2025, which is a 5.2% YoY increase.
Here are some of the projects I’m most excited about:
The PsiQuantum Facility is a state-of-the-art quantum computing hub in the South Side of Chicago.
A $350M data center in Aurora is being built to support CME Group and their customers.
Google’s new $280M office in the Loop is still underway and will give a much needed boost to the area.
Residential and Mixed-Use
While residential construction is expected to experience more modest growth, the multifamily segment continues to be a bright spot. By 2025, multifamily starts are projected to reach $3.2B, driven by some unique mixed-use development projects.
Fulton Market is Chicago’s fastest-growing neighborhood continues to thrive with new office, retail, and mixed-use spaces.
The 1901 Project is a $7B development going up next to the United Center spanning 55 acres, 9,000 residential units, and will create over 63,000 jobs.
The LeClaire Courts project is set to deliver 700 residential units and 440,000 feet of mixed-use public space in Southwest Chicago.
Chicago’s construction sector represents our resilience as a city. These developments will to position as a hub for innovation.

Practical resources like this matter a lot more for Chicago’s economic development than most of the work done by major institutions ostensibly responsible for that sort of thing. Shoutout @landon20s.
